Want to Make Money Online but Don’t Know Where to Start? Here’s What I Would Tell a Beginner

Have you ever thought about making money online but didn’t know where to begin?

Maybe you’ve watched videos about affiliate marketing, digital products, blogging, or selling eBooks. Everybody seems to be doing something, and you’re sitting there wondering, “Okay, but how do I actually get started?”

I get it, because I’ve been there too.

And one thing I’ve learned on my entrepreneurship journey is that you don’t have to know everything to get started.

You just need to start somewhere.

Why Starting an Online Business Can Feel So Overwhelming

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get discussed enough.

Sometimes it’s not that we don’t want to start a business. It’s that there are so many options that we don’t know which direction to go.

You might be thinking:

  • What can I sell if I don’t have my own products?
  • Can I really start an online business without showing my face?
  • Do I need a website or a big social media following?
  • What if I’m not good with technology?
  • How do I know what to do first?

These are real questions, especially for beginners.

And with so many people online talking about making thousands of dollars, it’s easy to feel like you’re already behind.

But here’s something I want you to remember.

You’re not behind. You’re learning.

1. Start With One Way to Make Money Online

One mistake beginners can make is trying to do everything at once.

Affiliate marketing. Blogging. Digital products. Pinterest. YouTube. Online stores.

Whew! That’s a lot! 😂

Instead, choose one thing you want to learn first.

For example, affiliate marketing allows you to recommend products or services from companies and potentially earn a commission when someone makes a qualifying purchase through your link.

Creating digital products is another option. You can make helpful guides, planners, checklists, or eBooks that people can purchase online.

Neither one guarantees income, but both can be worth learning about.

The key is to focus on one skill and build from there.

2. You Don’t Have to Show Your Face to Start

Here’s something else I want beginners to understand.

Not everybody wants to get in front of a camera, record videos, or go live on social media.

And that’s okay!

There are ways to create and promote digital products without making yourself the center of every post.

You can explore:

  • Pinterest graphics that lead to your products or blog
  • Helpful blog articles
  • Educational social media posts
  • Printable planners and checklists
  • Digital eBooks that solve specific problems

This is one reason I created my eBook, Faceless & Faith-Filled: A Beginner’s Guide to Creating and Selling Digital eBooks Without Showing Your Face.

I wanted to put together something that could help beginners explore digital product creation without feeling pressured to be on camera.

The guide walks through the process of developing an idea, creating an eBook, and learning ways to promote it.

3. Your Everyday Knowledge Could Become a Digital Product

Have you ever stopped to think about what you already know?

Maybe you’re good at organizing, cooking, budgeting, planning trips, teaching something, or helping people solve everyday problems.

Somebody else may be trying to learn that very thing.

That’s where digital products come in.

You don’t have to pretend to be an expert. But you do need to offer something useful, accurate, and worth someone’s time.

Start by asking yourself:

What problem can I help someone solve?

That’s the question I encourage beginners to think about before creating their first product.

4. Learn How Your Content Can Work for You

Maybe you’re already sharing things on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, or your blog.

Have you thought about how that content could support an online business?

For example, a helpful blog post about travel essentials could include relevant affiliate recommendations.

A Pinterest pin could send people to a digital guide that teaches them something.

A social media post could introduce someone to a product that solves a problem they’re having.

This is the kind of opportunity I talk about in Turn Your Posts Into Passive Income: Beginner’s Guide to Affiliate Marketing.

It’s designed to help beginners understand how their content can connect with affiliate marketing opportunities.

One important thing, though: Passive income doesn’t mean no work. Creating helpful content, attracting readers, and building trust take time and effort.

5. Make a Plan Instead of Trying Everything

One of the most helpful things you can do when starting is give yourself a simple plan.

You don’t need to build an entire business in one weekend.

Start with small steps.

During your first week, research one online income idea.

The next week, learn the tools you need.

Then work on creating something helpful, whether it’s a blog post, a digital product, or a collection of useful affiliate recommendations.

Continue learning, testing, and improving.

That’s the thinking behind my guide, Turn Your Free Time Into Profit: 30-Day Playbook.

It’s meant to help beginners turn their interest in online income into practical steps they can work through at their own pace.

6. Remember Why You Started

For me, entrepreneurship is about more than just earning money.

It’s about having more freedom, learning new things, creating opportunities, and building something of my own.

And yes, I’m still learning.

Some days things come together, and other days I’m trying to figure out the next step.

But I believe we can continue to grow, no matter what season of life we’re in.

I also believe that faith and action go together.

You can pray about your goals, write down your vision, and still take practical steps toward the things you want to accomplish.

You don’t have to have the entire journey figured out today.

Ready to Take Your First Step?

If you’ve been wanting to explore online entrepreneurship but don’t know where to begin, I created my beginner-friendly eBooks with people like you in mind.

Whether you’re interested in affiliate marketing, creating digital products, or learning how to start without showing your face, there’s a guide to help you explore your next step.

Start where you are. Learn as you go. And don’t be afraid to try something new.

I’m still learning on this journey too, and I’m sharing what I learn along the way.
